Sembilan Art Residency Project / 森州留驻画家计划

This is certainly not a news, but it could be new to some of our members. Do take note of it which happens in Seremban.

We pasted here the description about the organization from its website: :

sembilan was founded to support local emerging artists by providing them with a conducive workspace and living arrangement to creatively explore and express their ideas - along with the opportunity to exhibit their work at the end of the residency.

The program provides artists with a dedicated art space within a 1919 pre-war building in Negeri Sembilan, which has been recently renovated. It is approximately 2,000 square feet in size with plenty of blank walls and a wide, open space.

For 3 relaxing months, artists in residence will stay at a newly rejuvenated, heritage-styled hotel. Built in the 1950s, Sun Lun Yik Hotel was carefully restored in 2014 and is only a short stroll away from the art space.

Three times a year, sembilan will host group exhibitions for its residents to showcase their body of work in various exciting locations around Malaysia.

The residency is located in the state of Negeri Sembilan, along the fringes of Seremban's charming old town. It is approximately 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur by car.

The Program also aims to introduce a different side of Negeri Sembilan to gallery owners, collectors, curators, artists and other art enthusiast by hosting studio visits and art-related networking events.

A platform for emerging artists to grow and develop

No man is an island.
The same can clearly be said for Art Residencies!

sembilan is the cumulative effort of a number of organisations, with an interest for Asian art at heart.
At the core of it is Chalk and Raddy, an online magazine that brings you reviews, opinions and stories about projects and talents that embody the creative culture.

Chalk and Raddy's role within sembilan is to discover, develop and increase awareness of local artists in the south east asian region by providing them with an opportunity to be part of the sembilan Art Residency Program.
Hotel Sun Lun Yik is a proud sponsor of accommodation to sembilan's artist in residence. It has been a feature of Seremban old town since the 1960s. It is located in the heart of Seremban town, directly opposite the iconic Pasar Besar. It is positioned within walking distance to many of Seremban's old town highlights.

The building has since been rejuvenated into a boutique, heritage-styled hotel that maintains the charming character of the building, while providing guests with modern comfort and amenities. Some of the art work produced during the artist's residency with sembilan will be exhibited within the hotel. So please feel free to drop by the hotel for a visit.
elias projects is one of Malaysia's leading start-up boutique Project Management Consultancy. They help clients START, GROW and TRANSFORM their ideas and businesses by providing tailored Business Advisory services and customised Project Management solutions.
